Isopropyl Myristate (IPM), chemical formula: C17H34O2, CAS: 110-27-0, is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with low viscosity and good skin absorption. It is made by the esterification reaction of high molecular weight fatty acid (myristic acid) and isopropyl alcohol. It is insoluble in water, but miscible with a variety of organic solvents such as alcohol, ether, methylene chloride and oil. IPM is widely used as an emulsifier, wetting agent and solvent in cosmetics and personal care products, which can provide moisturizing and nourishing effects while giving the product a refreshing texture. In addition, it also has antibacterial and antioxidant properties, which helps to extend the shelf life of the product. In the pharmaceutical field, IPM can be used as a carrier and solvent for drugs to improve the efficacy and stabilize the drug ingredients.
